In Kirby’s Air Ride, there are many racing vehicles
out there. Each can be used to unlock more stars,
more bikes, and more characters. If you’re aiming to
get all 360 checklists, knowing the attributes of
each star is a must as you will be required to use
almost all of them. Here is a basic walkthrough of
all of the stars in the game. |
Bulk Star |
The Bulk star is a very bad star and I would avoid
using it. It has extremely high offense, defense,
HP, and weight. However, it has one huge flaw. It
will not move unless you spend time charging, and
the speed of the star is only average, plus the
charge of the star is very bad. This makes it
possibly the worst star to race with and it also
doesn’t help to know that it’s not too good at
gliding. It’s great at attacking and defending, but
you have to charge to move so you’ll just be
standing there charging, making you an easy target. |
Compact Star |
The star for beginners, the Compact Star specializes
in control and can be handled easily, but it suffers
in almost everything else. Its stats are that of the
Warpstar, except being a bit worse in all
departments except for control, which it is very
good at. |
Dragoon |
Dragoon, like Hydra, is one of, or is the best star
in the game. All of its stats are above average and
it has no real weakness unlike Hydra. The glide of
the star is by far its biggest point. By far the
best in the game, the star can stay in the air for
the longest time and with its high top speed, it is
a force to be reckoned with. Get it all costs, it is
one amazing star. |
Flight Warpstar |
The Flight Warp Star is the Warpstar, except it has
the best flying capabilities (except for the
legendary stars) in the game. It can only be used on
Free Run in City Trial though, so you can’t race
with it. |
Formula Star |
The formula star as most would guess is best at
straight courses and worst at turning courses. Its
disadvantages are turning and boost, so don’t bother
charging with it at the start. However, it has
wonderful top speed, possibly the best in the game.
The speed will constantly increase, and almost never
stop increasing, but because you cannot turn well,
the star is usually not a good one as hitting a wall
will bring the speed back down to the bottom. |
Free Star |
The Free star is no different from the Steer star
except for the way it controls. With the free star,
the star turns to face whatever direction the
control stick is pointing at and goes that way. It
can only be used in Top Ride. |
Hydra |
Hydra, being one of the 2 legendary stars, is one
of, if not the best star in the game. All of its
stats except for charge which is the worst in the
game are way above average, with its top speed and
offense being the highest in the game. However, the
star has one weakness: The Bulk Star effect. That’s
right, you have to charge the star before you can
move. But don’t worry, unlike the Bulk star, the
charge takes a while to run out so you’ll have
plenty of time to speed ahead and do lots of damage
to the competition. It’s a must for racing so do
your best to assemble it. |
Jet Star |
The Jet star has no noticeable advantage or
disadvantage, but it does have an ability that makes
it different from the other stars. The ability is
that when the jet star gets into the air, its speed
suddenly increases dramatically at a fast rate and
then slowly decreases as it stays in the air. This
ability will usually help you in the races but
sometimes it can be a bad thing. It’s fun to use for
courses with a lot of flying and it is good to try
out. |
King Dedede |
King Dedede is pretty much a combination of the Rex
Wheelie and Wheelie Bike. He specializes in offense,
defense, and top speed, but not to the degree Rex
Wheelie does, however King Dedede has no noticeable
disadvantage and is great for those who want a power
star, but not to the degree of the Rex Wheelie. |
Meta Knight |
Meta Knight is one of those characters where how
good he does depends on who the opponents are. Meta
Knight has a high top speed and acceleration and has
a unique ability only he has: he cannot gain speed
when he is right behind an opponent and opponents
cannot gain speed if they are right in front of him.
This means that Meta Knight is best against stars
slower than him because they will not be able to
catch him, but against the few stars that are faster
than him (Swerve star, Jet star and Wheelie scooter
in air, Rex Wheelie and Formula star at top speed),
he can never catch them unless the stars ahead slow
down. However, Meta Knight is still a powerhouse
since only a few stars can outrun him. His flying
and offense stats are also very good making him
great on almost any course. The downside to Meta
Knight is that he, like the Wagon star, cannot
charge, but like the Swerve star, he has very high
acceleration so the charge is not needed. |
Rex Wheelie |
The Rex Wheelie is your standard heavy star. It has
high offense, defense, weight, HP, and top speed,
but the acceleration is low, meaning it will take a
while to reach the top speed. The turn and charge
stats are its disadvantages, but that is all so it
is for those that like the big strong bikes. |
Rocket Star |
The Rocket Star is very unique because of its
advantages and disadvantage. The star has very low
speed, but a very good boost, provided you charge
all the way. The star’s charge isn’t very good as
well, but the boost makes up for it. The real
advantage the star has that is overlooked frequently
is the stars acceleration behind other stars, which
is the best in the game. If you stay behind an
opponent, the speed will increase at a rapid rate,
so the star is very good for last minute finishes. |
Shadow Star |
The Shadow star really has no noticeable
disadvantage. It is a bit slower than other stars
like the Winged star, but you won’t notice it. Its
offense and gliding skills however, are quite good,
and some of the best. It’s a great star for battles
and flying and is overall one of the better stars
out there. |
Slick Star |
The slick star has no real disadvantage, but has a
better boost then most stars, meaning when you
charge the star will start up faster. However, it
has an element that separates it from the other
stars: it slides. While you ride the star, it will
slide instead of turning, so you have to quickly
face the direction you want to turn in and do a
quick charge, and then boost that way if you want to
turn. The controls can be difficult but the boost
the star has can make up for it. |
Steer Star |
The Steer star is no different from the Free star
except for the way it controls. With the steer star,
the star turns clockwise if you hold the control
stick right and counter clockwise if you hold the
control stick left and goes in the direction it is
facing. It can only be used in Top Ride. |
Swerve Star |
The Swerve Star is your #1 star to go to usually for
a random course because it has the highest
acceleration in the game, as well as high top speed.
The acceleration is so good that right when the race
starts you’ll be at your top speed, the star itself
is just amazing. The only major flaw the star has is
its turning, however, one can easily do away with
this flaw. By charging as you get to a turn, you can
turn the star much faster than you could if you were
moving, but you will not be moving at all. The star
takes a lot of practice to master, but is very good
once you master it. |
Turbo Star |
The Turbo star is a good star, like the Wagon star
it only has one big advantage and disadvantage. Its
advantage is its high top speed and acceleration
making it fast like the swerve star. However, the
disadvantage the star has is its control. The star
is hard to control and if you spend to long turning
or turn to far the star will spin around and go out
of control. It is hard to master, but if you can,
it’s one of the best stars in terms of racing. |
Wagon Star |
The Wagon star is a good star for beginners and
pros. It has only one noticeable advantage and
weakness so it is a good star. Its advantage is its
HP, which is the highest (aside from the two
legendary stars) in the game, meaning it’s great for
hard courses with lots of hazards. The disadvantage
on the other hand, is its charge. The Wagon star
cannot charge at all, so you won’t be able to get as
big of a boost off of turns and the start as other
stars, but the speed is still good and the HP can
make up for it, so it is a good star to use every
now and then. |
Warpstar |
There really isn’t much to say about the Warpstar,
it’s your basic star. It is average in racing,
flying, destroying, and all that. Has no bad points,
but has no good points. It is the most basic star –
it is the perfect all around star. |
Wheelie Bike |
The Wheelie Bike is an altered version of the
Warpstar, in that its stats are similar to it. The
Wheelie Bike has slightly better offense, defense,
top speed, and acceleration then the Warpstar, but
has slightly worse control, turning, flying, and HP.
It’s a standard bike. |
Wheelie Scooter |
The Wheelie Scooter is one of the most unique stars
in the game and is very fun to use and worth a try.
The specialties consist of the best turn in the
game, one of the best charges in the game, high
acceleration, a very strange floating mechanic, and
the jet stars giant increase once in the air. The
floating mechanic I mentioned is that once you stay
in the air very long, the bike’s speed will decrease
to zero like the jet star, but it won’t sink, and
will instead just float in the air and start to
slowly fall. This means you can’t stay in the air
long with this star or you will float and lose lots
of time, making it risky. The disadvantages of the
star include low HP, low offense and defense, low
weight, and low top speed. Like the Jet star, the
Wheelie Scooter increases speed in the air. |
Winged Star |
The winged star is the best flying star in the game
besides the Flight Warpstar and Dragoon, however
those 2 can’t be used in Air Ride so for a flying
course, the Winged Star is your choice. It doesn’t
have any big disadvantage actually, on the ground it
goes slower than the average star, but not that much
slower. |
